Protecting your energy field

As Empaths it is easy for us to be overwhelmed with the energy around us which can result in being confused in what our energy is and what belongs to other people. This then has the potential to cause empaths further trouble when they unknowingly allow their energy to be drained or they take this energy on board as their own, which may include other people’s wounds and/or thought patterns.

Protecting your energy field is essential for your overall well-being and emotional health. Here are some practices you can incorporate into your daily life to protect your energy field:

  • Awareness: Start to be aware of what your energy feels like in its natural state. This may change each day depending on what is happening in your life so its best to develop a Meditation practice where you can check in with your energy before you leave the house each morning. By doing this you will be aware of any negative energy that you may pick up on during the day, giving you the clear awareness if you begin to carry energy that is not yours.
  • Know your energy weaknesses: As you build up your awareness of your energy field you will become aware of what type of places or people tend to drain you or tend to confuse your energy field with energy that belongs to someone or something else, which could result in a situation where you may take home someone elses energy. For example, often anywhere where there is a large crowd such as shopping centres can be an issue for many people. Once you are aware of these situations then you can avoid them if possible or strengthen your protection before you enter these situations.
  • Use visualisation to set a strong protect barrier around you: Visualise universal life-force energy/light falling down from above your head and then see it form a protective bubble of gold light around you. It is important to connect to universal life-force/light energy and not your own so that it can be maintained throughout the day. Think of the sunshine and imagine this light repelling any energy that is not yours.
  • Positive Affirmations: Setting a positive affirmation before you leave the house or before you visit a place that triggers you, can help shift your energy in a positive direction. Statements like “I am surrounded by a protective light” or “I am protected and safe” can be powerful.
  • Ask for Spiritual Assistance: Our spiritual allies such as Spiritual Guides, Spirit Animals, Ancestors, Goddesses or Angels can help to protect your energy. Trust your intuition on who you are guided to ask for assistance and then ask them to protect you for that day.
  • Be Present: Stay present and aware of your thoughts and emotions during the day. When our mind and awareness are on the present moment, and not lost in past thoughts or the ‘what ifs’ of the future, then we become strong and grounded in that moment. This not only naturally increases our protection, but it strengthens our awareness of what energy is around us at that time. Energy that we can then say no to before it gets stuck in our energy field.

Remember that protecting your energy field is an ongoing practice, and what works best for you may vary. It’s essential to stay attuned to your own energy so that you can strengthen your awareness of what energy is around you.
